Please take a moment to read through each section carefully, as it offers a clear overview of my commission process, from booking and workflow to pricing and licensing.

  • Personal commissions are currently closed indefinitely. If they reopen in the future, I'll announce it publicly and update the status accordingly.

  • Commercial commissions remain open and are my primary focus. You can check my current availability here or reach out via email for more details: [email protected]

Estimated turnaround time is typically 3-4 weeks, depending on complexity and schedule. If you require delivery sooner, a rush fee may apply, depending on workload.Larger projects like book covers and endpapers generally have a longer turnaround time of 4-6 weeks. This allows room for several initial concepts and multiple revision rounds to fully refine the final artwork.

Book characters, game characters, OCs, fan art, fantasy themes, portraits (in my style only).

Realism, heavy gore, heavy mecha, furry, hateful themes, NSFW, NFTs, someone else's style.Note: While I'm open to artistic nudity and moderate darker themes depending on the context, I generally don’t specialize in Dark Romance or heavily smut-focused projects. This is simply due to personal and professional boundaries, especially around sensitive themes involving consent, power imbalances, or highly explicit scenes. As these elements can vary widely in interpretation and comfort levels, I take them on selectively and with careful consideration. That being said, every project is different, and you are always very welcome to reach out and share your idea. ♡

I do not use AI tools in any part of my creative process and I do not allow any of my work to be used in the training of AI.Any unauthorized use of my work for AI purposes will automatically terminate any and all rights or licenses previously granted.

  • Do you have a waitlist?

I don’t keep a traditional waitlist, but I do book projects several months in advance. Each commission is reserved within a dedicated time slot once the contract is signed and the deposit has been received.Since my calendar tends to fill up early, I recommend reaching out ahead of time if you're considering to commission, especially for larger or multi-stage projects. While I’m rarely able to take on urgent requests, you’re always welcome to reach out and check my availability. ⟡˙

  • Do you offer discounts?

I may occasionally offer a discount depending on the scope and overall budget (especially for larger projects or long-term collaborations), but as a general rule, I stick to the rates in my pricing guide. Illustration is my full-time job, and my prices reflect the time, experience and care I put into each project. ♡

  • Do I really need a license?

Yes. When you commission an illustration for commercial use, you're not purchasing the copyright of the artwork itself, you're purchasing a license that allows you to use the illustration in specific, agreed-upon ways - such as for marketing materials, book covers, merchandise, or other promotional purposes.

  • What does a license include?

A license defines how the illustration may be used. This includes specific details such as duration (e.g. 1 year, 3 years), territory (e.g. Europe, USA, worldwide), type of use (e.g. book covers, marketing, promotional materials), exclusivity, and production limits.

  • Can a license be updated or extended later?

Yes. All licenses can be updated or extended at any time. New licensing terms and fees will be discussed and tailored to your needs.

  • Do I really need a contract?

Yes. All commercial commissions require a signed contract, which outlines the licensing terms and any additional project details (e.g. deadline, payment terms) to ensure clarity for all parties involved.

Thank you for reading and especially for your interest in my work! Please review the other sections for further info. I look forward to creating something special for you! ⟡˙

They do not include commercial licensing. For a custom quote, please email me at [email protected] to discuss the scope of the project.Note: Custom quotes have a 60-days validity period, after which I may not be able to ensure the same price.

To inquire about a commission, please contact me via email at [email protected] and include the following information:

  • a short brief (type of project, concept, number of characters, description, reference photos, etc.)

  • your preferred deadline

  • licensing needs in case of commercial work (intended use, duration, etc.)

If you’re unsure about some of these details, feel free to reach out regardless and we can discuss the project together. Please avoid contacting me through DMs regarding commissions, as I may miss your message completely.

Once the commission is approved, I will provide a contract outlining the scope of work and agreed-upon terms. After the contract is signed, a non-refundable deposit of 100€ is required to secure your booking. This amount will be deducted from the total fee and helps cover preparation time, as well as potential lost opportunities in the event of a last-minute cancellation. The remaining payment is due closer to the scheduled start date, typically two weeks prior. I will reach out around that time with the invoice and payment details. Please note: If I don’t hear back during this two-week window, or if the invoice remains unpaid by the due date, the project will be considered canceled and the €100 deposit will be retained.

The remaining balance can be paid:

  • in full, upfront or

  • in two installments: 50% upfront and 50% after sketch approval

Payments are accepted via PayPal invoice only, in EUR or USD.
Bank transfers are available for returning clients and long-term collaborators.

  • If the commission is paid in full and canceled during the sketch phase, a partial refund may be issued, depending on case.

  • If the commission is partially paid and canceled during the sketch phase, refunds are no longer available.

  • If the commission is canceled after the sketch phase, refunds are no longer available.

  • If I'm unable to complete the commission as arranged, a full refund will be issued.

Once I begin working on the commission, I will notify you and provide 2 to 4 progress updates, depending on complexity: thumbnails, detailed sketch, flat colours, final rendering. Each stage includes one free round of revisions.IMPORTANT:Major changes must be requested during the sketch phase (pose, expression, composition).Once I begin rendering, only minor adjustments are possible (tweak the colours, small details).Any revisions beyond the initial round may incur an additional fee.

Final files will be sent via email and will contain:

  • a high res 300DPI PNG with the artwork, containing my watermark

  • a JPEG version with added grainy texture (my preferred option for web display)

  • for commercial projects: print-ready files (PDF or TIFF files in CMYK profile)

Throughout the process, all correspondence will be handled through email. I'll stay in touch with key updates, but feel free to email me at any time with questions. :)

All commissioned artworks are for personal use by default, unless discussed otherwise. For commercial use, a licensing fee will be applied based on the scope, usage type and duration. See the licensing fee guidelines below.

Please note that the following examples are guidelines. Licensing fees will be determined after reviewing the entire project.

For cases where the artwork supports an existing product, service or brand, but it's not being sold as a standalone item:

  • online advertising (marketing, book launch, youtube/twitch branding, etc.)

  • pre-order freebies (art prints, stickers, bookmarks, etc.)

  • event marketing (campaign visuals, branding, etc.)

Indie Creators & Authors: 10-25% of the base rate.Traditional Authors, Publishers, Shops & Brands: please contact me directly for a custom quote.

For cases where the artwork directly generates revenue, either as the main product or as part of one:

  • book illustration (covers, dust jackets, endpapers, overlays, etc.)

  • physical merch (art prints, bookmarks, tote bags, etc.)

  • subscription box items

  • product packaging

Indie Creators & Authors: 30-100% of the base rate (online advertisement included).Traditional Authors, Publishers, Shops & Brands: please contact me directly for a custom quote.

This license has a larger percentage variation because projects can differ significantly in their usage rights requirements. For this reason, I encourage you to reach out via email so I can provide an accurate quote based on your specific needs. ♡

Licenses are granted for a minimum duration of 12 months and up to 15 years, with the option to renew at any time. As each project varies in scope and requirements, licensing terms will be determined after reviewing the full project. If you're unsure which category your project falls under, don't hesitate to reach out - we can sort it out together! ⟡˙

I retain full rights to the artworks and may showcase them in my portfolio and social media. All commercial work will require a written contract outlining the terms. I do not work without a contract.

If you're commissioning for personal use, you may share the artwork online, use it as a profile picture, gift it or print it for yourself - as long as it remains non-profit and proper credit is given to @heytheredevana.

  • using the artwork for profit

  • altering or removing my signature

  • editing or claiming the artwork as your own

  • replicating or altering my art style for derivative work

Clients who previously commissioned me for personal use may request to license the artwork for commercial purposes at a later time. In such cases, I will provide a contract outlining the licensing terms.

Commissioned artwork may not be used in AI training, fed into image generators or included in any data sets for machine learning purposes.

Hey there, my name is Devana and I’m a freelance illustrator based in Romania, with a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the West University of Timisoara, Faculty of Arts and Design. With over 5 years of experience, my projects range from book covers and endpapers to interior illustrations and character art. My work is often inspired by whatever creative obsession I'm currently exploring - lately, that means bringing bookish characters to life. I'm especially drawn to creating art that focuses on storytelling and atmosphere, but I also love capturing simple moments of every day life. ⟡˙When I'm not drawing, you’ll usually find me reading, attempting to play the piano, or taking long walks in the park - mostly to admire every passing dog and resist the urge to get one myself.

  • What tools and software do you use for drawing?

Software: I'm using the Procreate app on the iPad Pro 13" 2024.Brushes: I'm using my own custom brushes from the Velvet Set (Clean Softie is my go-to for everything) in combination with some of Procreate's default brushes, such as the Hard Brush or the Flat Brush. You can find my brush sets here & support my work at the same time. ♡Canvas size: 3540 x 4350px generally, but anything above 3000px and 300DPI works fine.
